In Antarctica, everything is extreme. It is the coldest, highest and driest continent on the planet, yet there’s nothing quite like it for adventurous souls who yearn to experience the beauty and spectacle of Mother Nature at her very best. This last bastion of an untouched land is a majestic, dramatic wonder. Rivers of ice and mountains, hundreds of thousands of years old, tower above you on either side, all carving a unique mark on the landscape.
The White Continent is a frosted wilderness of glistening white as far as the eye can see. Natural ice sculptures like enormous works of avant-garde art. This is the modern explorer’s final frontier. A place unlike anywhere else on Earth where unique nature and wildlife species exist and in fact thrive, despite the harsh climate. Marvel at calving glaciers and experience encounters with marine mammals. Observe seals sunbathing on slowmoving ice floes, perfectly at ease in the company of visitors. Hear the cries of penguins multiplied by the hundreds. Feel the unspeakable magnifi cence of whales surfacing from beneath the frigid waters.
Yet at the same time, the Arctic region, packed with astoundingly bountiful wildlife, dramatic coastlines and isolated communities is equally spellbinding. There are places in this world that travellers only dream about. Destinations so isolated and uncharted, to reach them meant sacrifi cing all but the most basic comforts until now. The Prince Albert II will escort you in unsurpassed luxury to some of the world’s most fascinating locations. Walk along a glacier and toast the midnight sun. Observe penguins, dolphins and whales in the wild. Share in the traditions of remote jungle cultures. Enter the realm of the polar bear. Experience the thrill of a true expedition. Venture deep into regions where other vessels cannot go, enjoying a privileged lifestyle that is simply second-to-none.
PRINCE ALBERT II
An Arctic Legacy
Monaco’s Prince Albert I first explored the Svalbard Archipelago in the early part of the last century. Together with a team of scientists, he studied glaciers, mapped previously unknown areas and carried out scientifi c research. One hundred years later, Prince Albert II, his greatgreat- grandson and the namesake of our ship, plotted a similar course to the North Pole with the intent to draw international attention to the environmental changes caused by global warming in these northern regions. Silversea pays homage to these two great men and their expeditions as we explore the Artic aboard the Prince Albert II.
